BODY MASS INDEX (BMI)
A Quick Overview
The Body Mass Index (BMI) is a number calculated from a person's height and weight. The World Health Organization (WHO) has been using this test since the early 1980s as the standard method for recording obesity statistics.
It is the most widely used population-level measure of obesity due to its simplicity in categorizing adults as underweight, overweight, or obese.

How To Calculate Your BMI
To calculate your BMI you'll need your height and weight. Use the following chart:
Interpreting Your BMI
Once you have your BMI, you can use this general guideline to understand your weight category:
-
Underweight: BMI less than 18.5
-
Normal weight: BMI between 18.5 and 24.9
-
Overweight: BMI between 25 and 29.9
-
Obese: BMI of 30 or higher
Important Note: While BMI is a useful tool, it's not a perfect measure of body fat. It doesn't account for factors like muscle mass, bone density, or body composition. For a more accurate assessment of your health, consult with a healthcare professional.
