BODY FAT PERCENTAGES

Body fat percentage is the amount of fat in your body compared to your total body mass. It's a more accurate indicator of health than just weight alone, as it takes into account muscle mass, bone density, and water content.  

 

Healthy Ranges for Adults

Men: 10-20%

Women: 20-30%

How to Measure Body Fat

 

There are several methods to measure body fat, including:

 

  • Skinfold calipers: This involves measuring the thickness of skin folds at specific points on the body.

  • Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA): This method sends a weak electrical current through the body and measures resistance, which can be used to estimate body fat.  

  • Hydrostatic weighing: This involves submerging a person in water and measuring their weight.  

  • DEXA scans: This is a highly accurate method that uses X-rays to measure bone density, muscle mass, and fat mass.  

 

It's important to consult with a healthcare professional or certified fitness trainer to determine the best method for measuring your body fat and setting appropriate goals.
